A few weeks ago, I came off a 5-day bender of the anti-inflammatory steriod Prednisone which was prescribed to me to treat a medical condition. Let's say it was like being prescribed a mild version of speed where I zipped around the house despite getting ony 5 or 6 hours of sleep. The night after I finished the drug, I "crashed" in bed and had a really vivid dream about a group of people called Swamways, dressed up in superhero outfits.

Curious Things in my Dreams #1: Radio Purses and Raining Chairs
I'm going to start this feature where I encounter things in my dreams that are odd or interesting, but not enough substance to make a blog post, such as a curious purse I found a dream and a magic dining chair in another.

Flat Ferris Wheel
I've posted quite a few dreams here involvng amusement park rides here. In case you're wondering, no, I'm not an amusement park ride designer or anything like that, though I imagine that would be an interesting job. However, my subconsciousness is probably one in its spare time. For example, one recent dream involves a really odd type of ferris wheel that I'm not sure exists in real life.

Lemon Yellow Thrift Shop
Many of my dreams seem to take place in mountain towns, which is odd as I've never actually lived in one. While it's true that I spent at least 30 years in Colorado, they were in towns outside the mountains, such as Jefferson County, Ft. Collins and Boulder. I don't think these mountain towns inmy dreams actually exist. Some are tourtisty like that Western-themed town with the restaurant that featured rolling siniging cowboys, and some are just regular towns with neighborhoods and shopping center. A recent dream I had takes place in the latter category. A friend and I checked out a new thrift store named "Lemon Tree Thrift Shop."

A Big-Ass Frozen Food Store in the Basement
This isn't the most exciting or craziest dream, but it's kinda neat. My mother and I were eating brunch at a greenhouse-like restaurant with glass-tiled walls in some shopping mall. The waitress gave us a basket of tiny muffins filled with chopped apricots that were heavenly (sometimes I can taste things in dreams), buttery and sweet. When the waitress came back and saw us gobbling up the muffins, she told us there is a place where we can buy more of them. She gave us a scrap of paper that reads "E-52" and directed us to the down escalator just outside the restaurant's entrance, and then look for the freezer section marked E-52.

Goldilocks Ferris Wheels
I've blogged here quite a few times about amusement parks and rides, and I don't know why they feature so much in my dreams. Maybe it's because I used to be an amusement park buff. Also, don't your pulse quicken in excitement when you drive by an amusement park with sloping latticework of a roller coaster, too? Anyway, here's a dream about a weird ride -- actually more like a trio of rides.
Chewed Bras
In this dream, I was Carrie Bradshaw from that old TV show "Sex and the City". For a writing assignment, I visited a shop named Chewed Bras, expecting to see lingerie mangled by family pets or hte like. But it turned out to be a regular lingerie shop selling brand-new underwear in pristine condition. "Chewed" happened to the last name of the shopkepper. A really bad choice of a name for a store if you ask me. While touring the shop, I spotted a saleswoman demonstrating to a customer how she could take off her bra without removing her street clothes while doint contortist poses at the same time. I guess times are so tough that you gotta do a tough sell. As Carrie, I did other things but not as interesting as this one, such as sitting at a restaurant, eating chocolate cake with that gay male friend also from the show (I don't remember his name) and saying things like, "It's great to have friends like you."
